Marie Antoinette's lifestyle of unnecessary excess sparked the French revolution. The high court used this to their advantage to shift the deficit blame onto her. They would not allow a painting of the queen to be released to the people to see because Marie was wearing simple clothing. This painting was changed to show the queen in extravagant clothing. There was also an incident with an exceptionally expensive necklace that was never ordered by the queen but publicized that it was. Marie herself became the target of cruel gossip, not only by word of mouth but also by the newspapers. I included little newspapers, the painting that was changed, beautiful flowers, silk, and pieces of a necklace to symbolize part of her story.
